Canopy - Canopy-Certified Community Forester Course

This 9-week course will equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and training needed to take action in the community right away. Community Forestry School graduates will be equipped to identify trees, plant and prune effectively, explain the value of the urban forest to others, and advocate for trees in the community.

This class is FREE and online, with some outdoor field assessments.

EPA Library - Free In-person English Classes for Beginners

Starting March 7, the EPA Library will host free in-person English courses. Every Tuesday from 10:30AM - 12 NOON. Register for a seat today!

JobTrain - Building Maintenance Technician Training Program

The training program is an overview of basic skills for maintaining and managing interior/exterior of housing communities in a first-rate condition. Students will be shown how to perform repairs and upgrades on painting, drywall installation, plumbing, electrical and finished work. There will be computer-based curriculum activities.

JobTrain - Carpentry Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program

The course offers an introduction to construction and environmental training. Students are trained in basic general construction skills as well as HAZWOPER (hazardous waste operations). There will be computer-based curriculum activities. Students will gain a strong foundation in construction, green building, and forklift instruction. Graduates can begin careers as carpenters, ironworkers, electricians, plumbers, drywall workers, and other general construction labor occupations.

JobTrain - Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program

Students learn communication skills, patient care and emergency procedures through hands-on clinical work and are prepared for the California state exam for Certification as a Nurse Assistant. Graduates are qualified for employment in skilled nursing and extended care facilities.

JobTrain - Culinary Arts Training Program

The Culinary Arts Program at JobTrain is an introduction to professional cooking. Students will learn all of the basic rules of working in a commercial kitchen and will be prepared for an entry level job in the industry. To accommodate social distancing, the Culinary Arts class will currently be taught as a hybrid of online classes and hands on, in-person skills labs in JobTrain’s commercial kitchen. The Culinary Arts class will prepare students through hands on instruction, lectures, reading assignments, workshops, and group projects.

JobTrain - Digital Literacy Skills Classes (ONLINE)

Gain practical, employable skills to help you succeed in the workforce. You will become familiar with commonly used software programs, online tools, and social media platforms. There are three classes, each with their own focus. You may take just one, two, or all three of these classes, in any order you wish. Classes consist of discussion, hands on learning, scenarios and exercises.

JobTrain - IT Automation with Python (Advanced IT)

This advanced course for careers in the technology field will prepare graduates for entry to mid-level Systems Admin/IT Support, Data Management, and Automation jobs. IT Automation with Python is a dynamic, fast-growing field, in 2023 alone, Python’s user base grew by over 10%, solidifying its place as the most popular programming language worldwide. This program is designed to equip students with skills required to excel in the field of Python automation. Companies are increasingly using this language to build data analytics software to transform customer-brand interactions. Given the growing importance of data science, there is a clear growth in Python’s user base beyond the confines of traditional programmers.

JobTrain - IT Support & Services Training Program

This foundational course for careers in the technology field will prepare graduates for entry level desktop support, help desk, and technical customer service jobs. IT support is a dynamic, fast-growing field which is projected to grow 11% between 2016 and 2026 — faster than the average of all other occupations. This certificate program introduces people to troubleshooting and customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration, automation, and security—all the fundamentals of IT support.

JobTrain - Medical Assistant Training Program

Students learn medical terminology, billing, and coding; learn how to take patients’ vital signs; giving injections; Venipunctures; doing ECGs; dose calculations and metric conversions; receive CPR certification. Graduates are prepared for certification and are qualified for work in doctor, and optometrist offices as well as medical clinics and facilities.

Menlo Fire - Adult CERT Training

Menlo Fire offers the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program to train community members in disaster preparedness and basic disaster response skills.

This is a series of three all-day classes, and participants are expected to attend all sessions.

The East Palo Alto and Belle Haven communities are fortunate to have such a great community college system on their doorstep. And now that education is available for free.

They can also help students overcome barriers to their education, including groceries, health services, and transportation to campus.
